How do I change my screen name on Facebook?

My friend changed it once to a stupid name when I left my facebook on and she came over, and I've been trying to change it back to normal!! And I know you go to account settings, change name, etc. I've sent the request dozens of times. I've waited 24 hours as it says and it doesn't change!!
