Do you have an opinion on Selective Schools in NSW?

There has been some focus on Selective schools on SMH (Sydney morning herald)

and I was shocked to learn that a vast majority of students who gain entry are from non-english backgrounds and spend a lot of time and money on Coaching.

Do you have an opinion on the benefits and negative results of Selective schools?

Do you think they are beneficial and do you believe we should change the selection process?

Do you believe your child will benefit from going to such a school?

Thanks!Do you have an opinion on Selective Schools in NSW?Yes. They are very expensive. So parents are more likely to see that their child makes good use of the opportunity to avoid throwing away money. Parents and child aiming at the same goal make an unbeatable team so the child does well because he tries and the parents are interested. This can also happen in any school or any family.

The elite schools pay better salaries and thus are likely to attract the better teachers. There are, however, plenty of gifted teachers and students elsewhere. Actually the majority of students would have no physical access to a selective school and yet they still reach the top of the exam lists. Schools and homes must be working well in the ordinary old schools in the state.

Would my child benefit at a selective school? I will certainly consider it if I find out that he has learned every thing that his current teachers have tried to reach him.
